Nanna
A portrait of my youngest daughter and our dogs. Our biggest dog, Bella follows our children and dotes on them. As a lover of Peter Pan, I envisioned this portrait from the Mabel Lucie Attwell illustrations as inspiration.
My youngest has a wildling old soul, she is a two year old who knows she has powerful protectors. I have dressed her in pre-loved clothes belonging to our family, hand sewn together. She is sat on a piano stool that captures the love of music thar runs through our families. Her Amma (Grandma) is a piano teacher, this stool was donated from a school that she taught in. Though I have no musical skill apart from my warble in the shower, I do fondly remember my Nan playing you are my Sunshine, and my cousin's flawless, effortless playing.
One photo.
And within is a family, a legacy, the familiarities of a child's personality and features to her ancestors the stories and music we pass down with love.
This is the essence of what I want to hang on my walls. It evokes conversations and memories that keep our traditions alive and is a big part of why I collect antiques to include in photoshoots.
Calendar Girls
Calendar Girls was born from and Artist called Kat Shaw, who paints women's bodies alongside her healing therapies. I had just had my two babies when I stumbled on her magnificent paintings. I saw my very real wobbly body in her paintings and contacted her to ask if she would collaborate with me. Kat said she had a project planned, and I couldn't wait to come on board. This was a well planned empowering women's event that I walked away with a boat load of body confidence. As just the mere photographer, documenting and taking portraits, I could not believe how incredible the experience was. Kat is a Goddess among mortals.
